My girlish not-so-girlish coloring book!

It’s almost here! My brand new, girl-powered coloring book: Like a Girl!
Now at the final stages of proofing and printing, the book is nearly ready to be sold on Amazon and other leading stores.

My coloring book is directed to girls, but you can see it is not your typical girlish book. The main purpose of this book is to present positive role models and deliver an empowering message.

The book consists of 21 illustrations of strong young women with different skills and roles. Their areas of practice are varied – from science and research through sports and arts and on to educating children and caring for animals. All of these areas are important. All of them are needed to our society.

Like a Girl! was created as a counter-force to the takeover of children’s coloring books about princesses and fairies. Such coloring books are fun, but they focus mainly on the heroins’ appearance and suggest that a girl’s value is determined by her looks.

I felt that other sides of us ladies are being neglected: our creativity, intelligence, strength, capability, freedom and all those precious features that drive us to live our lives to the fullest and to make a difference in this world.
To me, it seemed like a call for empowering materials in the coloring books section for young girls. I wanted to remind them that they have many options, and that their value is related to what they do and to how they use their abilities.

You might call it a feminist coloring book, but in my eyes it simply presents the obvious: women are people, with passions and talents and wisdom, and they can do some good.

My other guideline in creating this coloring book was, of course, make it fun! I wanted the illustrations to be interesting, and the pages to be enjoyable to color for both kids and teens.

I am really excited for the upcoming launch. I’ll be posting updates and let you know about the progress!

In the meantime, here are a few images from the inside:
