Ryuko Matoi cosplay

That was a busy month!
With a lot of work on stock images and my other illustration projects, and with a secret Purim scheme that i’ve been plotting, my hand were completely full.
luckily i managed to stick in some Purim themed vectors to get some extra downloads! This simple one really rocked it:

In case you are not familiar with Purim – it is a Jewish holiday in which people wear costumes. There is also a religious part to it with some story about the ancient Jewish community of Persia and bla bla bla, but forget this, the important part is the costumes.

This year i decided to surprise my boyfriend, who happens to really like the anime Kill La kill. I secretly sewed a costume of the main character. i spent the past month secretly sewing and making the acsessories, and even ordered a wig from Ebay.
On Purim i invited my friends over for a festive dinner, and when my boyfriend came home to join us, I welcomed him as Ryuko Matoi.
He was so impressed that he decided to take pictures of me (well, of Ryuko), and it means a lot, because normally he only takes pictures of bugs.

I’m terrible at being photographed, so forgive my ridiculous being, but please appreciate my efforts in making this cosplay 😉

hile searching for a good method to create the glove’s bracelet I found many ideas on google. eventually I used some of my many foam sheets that come in packages from online orders… Yeah, they really pile up in my house.

In case there are some curious cosplayers around who want to see how I did it, here is the process:

  1. I rolled a foam sheet into a snake and taped it. i made two of these.

    2. I covered each snake with red fabric and sealed the edge with fabric glue.

    3. I attached the snakes to each other using glue and some thread.

    4. I glued a piece of black felt to the ugly side of the snakes. This would be the inside of the bracelet.

    5. I stitched a piece of elastic band to the edges of the bracelet, to make it easy to slip my hand into it.

    6. I glued a black ribbon along the crease.

    7. That’s about it. the rest of the glove was made out of a ready made red glove (you can find them anywhere during Purim\Halloween, thanks to the popularity of devil costumes)

I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t easy to sneak this little project into my everyday’s tasks list, and it definately came with a lot of guilt (I feel guilty every time I do something not work related -_-).
But boy, that was fun.

Well, now it’s behind us, so back to work in full speed! 😉
