It feel as if I was away for a year, though in fact it was only three weeks.
I spent two weeks in New York City and one week in Canada together with my boyfriend. The first two weeks in New York were kind of hectic. As I wrote in my previous post, I ordered copies of my coloring book “Like a Girl” to my address in New York, so that I can do some promotion while I’m there. The work around the copies took quite a lot of time, but that’s all good. I am not really a fan of New York and the only reason I went there was to be with my boyfriend while he is doing career-related errands overseas, so missing out travel time around the city wasn’t a problem.
Here is a little comics to share my experiences in New York:
New Yorkers will be mad at me for saying that, but this city is a big smelly mess. There are nicer areas, of course, but the heart of it, around Time’s Square (where I stayed) is impossible. I think my stress levels increased by 200% every time I stepped out of the apartment and tried to blaze a trail through the crowd.
Yet, there are upsides to New York, and the biggest one (I think) is the fact that you can get almost anything you want there. It is the city of whimsies. New York is a great place to have stupid obsessions. My obsession is Japanese good, so i spent a lot of time gobbling matcha latte, udon noodles, steamed buns, dorayaki and onigiri. That’s what you do in New York – exactly what the hell you want.
But seriously, that’s it. The rest of New York is chaos and nerves.
The trip in Canada was a complete opposite from New York. It felt like going to a different world. From the crowding and the noise we went to pure nature. During the last few days we stayed at the remote rock lake lodge, where only elks were standing in our way.
